POKER FILM SEQUEL RELEASE DATE PUBLISHED (Update)
"Rounders 2" should be in cinemas by end September
The much anticipated sequel to the poker movie Rounders will be in theatres by end September titled "Runner, Runner" entertainment media in the United States report this week.
Ben Affleck and Justin Timberlake star in the sequel, the script for which was written by the original Rounders authors. The new movie is directed by Brad Furman and is a set in the world of online gambling.
The switch in starring roles, replacing Rounders stars Matt Damon and Edward Norton, has excited some discussion, but Affleck and Timberlake apparently deliver a very professional depiction of their characters in the film.
Runner Runner will show Timberlake playing the role of a student-gambler earning his way through an ivy league college by playing in the online high stakes poker sector, whilst Affleck plays an internet poker businessman operating offshore in Costa Rica.
The two eventually come together in the Central American country when Timberlake's character feels he has been screwed by the operator.
Recognising the younger man's talent, Affleck's character employs Timberlake and the at times hectic and nosebleed action develops from there.
Screenwriter Brian Koppelman says he and fellow writer David Levien started work on the script back in late 2010, arriving at a first draft early in 2011. Producers that include Leonardo Di Caprio liked the concept, and production started in April 2012.
